1 | HUMANITARIAN RELIEF | Relief Program for IDPs & Needy Families | Other villages | Due to security conditions in the major cities such as Baghdad and Mosul, hundreds of families fled their homes to the villages in the north to seek shelter with relatives and or friends who were already faced with poor living conditions. In an effort to provide humanitarian relief, we responded by implementing a relief program to cover basic needs of 1000 families. Support included distribution of food, blankets and heating for the affected families. 6 | RECONSTRUCTION | 7 Months | Constructing Clinic Center in Nahla Region | Nahla R. Belmand | There are seven villages in Nahla region which did not have access to a medical centre. As a result, locals had difficulty accessing medical treatments for cases such as accidents, injuries, etc. Additionally, the roads leading to the region were also not paved, therefore it posed a major safety concern for locals seeking access to medical services in other areas. AAS developed a solution to construct a medical centre in the Bilmend village, situated in the central Nahla region for ease of access by the locals. After communicating to the Ministry of Health to ensure that medical instruments and staff were to be allocated as resources, AAS began construction on April 28th and completed by November 28th, 2004. 7 | INFRASTRUCTURE | Sewerage Channels: Alqosh | Alqosh | The town has been suffering from flooding of sewage and rain water for several years and solution was to lay pipe lines to transfer the water out of town. AAS commenced the project on February 25th to include the following work: Installed concrete pipe lines of 350m length. Constructed eight concrete septic tanks of 2×2×2m Cleaned the main channel from debris using excavator for 1500m length Performed a regular concrete channel in high discharging of 200m length.
